Healthcare
Acute and emergency medical care
In the event of health-related issues, all citizens of Ukraine have the right to acute and emergency medical care.
Further (necessary) healthcare – when am I entitled to it?
In order to have access to further medical care, you need to already have the official status of temporary shelter-holder or asylum-seeker in Slovakia.
Refugees and asylum-seekers are entitled to necessary healthcare – i.e., also to consultations with general practitioners, vaccinations, or parts of the care for chronic diseases.
This does not include planned care or spa care (e.g., planned hip-joint replacement surgery).
When do I need to register for public health insurance?
In the event that a refugee finds work in Slovakia earning more than the minimum wage (646€):
- He or she needs to register for public health insurance. The insurance also covers his or her minor children.
- You can select one of the three health insurance companies in Slovakia, (www.vszp.sk ↗︎, www.dovera.sk ↗︎, www.union.sk ↗︎).
- File a registration form.
- Show them your work agreement.
Public health insurance covers the full scope of medical care – including planned care.
Where to find more information on individual doctors and treatments?
- More information ↗︎, on the contact details and business hours of general practitioners, emergency room ambulances, dentists, medication, oncological, HIV/AIDS, and psychiatric treatment.
- List of medical facilities in the Bratislava Region ↗︎
