    The high-quality city centre that Bratislava deserves – the final part of the first major phase of the Živé námestie (“Living Square”) project is complete

    Bratislava, 2 October 2026 – Bratislava Mayor Matúš Vallo today symbolically opened a revitalised and fully reconstructed public space in the heart of the city, comprising Námestie SNP, Námestie Nežnej revolúcie and Poštová ulica. This major project of renewal of a truly extensive area, known as Živé námestie (“Living Square”), was a collaborative effort involving the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava (MIB), with an architectural design by the renowned German studio LOIDL. It has transformed this central area, giving it a modern look worthy of a 21st-century European capital.

    Bratislava, 30 September 2026 – The renovation of one of Bratislava’s most significant historic buildings is moving forward. After years of preparation, design work and preliminary activities, the main phase of renovation of the whole Grössling Spa complex is now underway. The goal remains to complete the work by the end of 2028.

    Bratislava restricts operating hours for pawnshops

    Bratislava, 17 September 2026 – Members of the Bratislava City Council today ratified by an overwhelming majority the capital city’s proposal to restrict the operations of pawnshops within Bratislava. Under the approved measure, pawnshops will be prohibited from operating between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. the following day, seven days a week. The measure aims to increase safety around certain pawnshops that attract local crime and reduce the quality of life for residents in the nearby communities.
