Bratislava, 1 August 2025 – Starting today, Bratislava residents have a new collection yard available in the city borough of Bratislava-Dúbravka. Based on the cooperation of OLO and the Capital City, the Pod brehmi collection yard is expanding the location where it enables residents of the western part of Bratislava in particular to hand over more than 1,500 tonnes of waste per year free of charge and in an environmentally friendly manner. It also provides a new option for handing over items for reuse for KOLO.
“I’m pleased that we’ve managed to open a new collection yard in Dúbravka, which brings significant improvement in accessibility and comfort when handing over waste, particularly for the residents of the western part of Bratislava. This will relieve the currently busiest OLO collection yard on Stará Ivanská cesta and will contribute to reducing waiting times and making visitor services more efficient. Thanks to the location of the new collection yard, OLO services are now closer to more than 100,000 residents from six city boroughs,” said Matúš Vallo, the mayor of the capital city of Bratislava.
“We are exceptionally pleased by the growing interest in the sorting and reuse of waste, and we’re pleased that we’ve been able to open another space for proper waste disposal, thus contributing to the ecological recovery of waste. Our largest collection yard, near the main office, is used by more than 30 thousand visitors per year, who drop off almost 10 thousand tonnes of waste. In most cases the waste that belongs in the collection yard does not belong in containers; therefore, we are pleased that we are expanding the possibilities of proper waste disposal closer to residents,” said Ivan Sokáč, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of OLO.
“I’m very glad that another of the priorities of city councillors Zdenka Zaťovičová, Juraj Káčer and myself as mayor has been implemented thanks to cooperation with OLO, the capital’s City Hall f and the City Borough of Dúbravka. From August, a new collection yard will be opened in Polianky. This is a major step towards better accessibility of services for residents and correct waste management. I’m convinced that the collection yard will be a daily form of help for people who want to dispose of waste responsibly, without unwanted complications, and that it will contribute to fewer illegal landfills in the city and more consideration for the environment we live in,” added the mayor of the Bratislava-Dúbravka city borough, Martin Zaťovič.
The Dúbravka collection yard is open to all residents of the capital who are involved in the municipal waste collection system. All that’s required upon entry is to show proof of permanent or temporary residence, proof of ownership of real estate in Bratislava and participation in the collection system. The new collection yard at Polianky in Dúbravka, in the Pod brehmi location, will be open year-round, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except on holidays.
Various types of waste can be brought to the collection yard free of charge, such as bulky waste, selected electrical waste, metal waste, biodegradable waste, scrap iron, paper, plastics, glass, wood, garden waste, textiles, clothing, and the like. Small construction waste is weighed and charged according to the current VZN 17/2023, as it is not included in the local municipal waste fee. Future visitors to the collection yard will find all other important information on the website www.olo.sk - OLO ↗︎.
This collection yard also includes a KOLO point. This is a place where residents can hand over still functional items that can continue to serve others. Items must be clean, complete and without serious damage. This space only operates only for handing over items to KOLO, which was created for the purpose of supporting reuse and preventing waste.
Collection yards help reduce the incidence of illegal landfills, waste thrown around in nature and rubbish left around containers and stands. At the same time, most types of waste that belong to the collection yard do not belong in containers for sorted collection. It is therefore important to manage such waste correctly and give it the opportunity for ecological disposal.
The transition to a circular economy is one of the important goals that OLO, together with the capital, is fulfilling. Aside from collection yards and KOLO operations, they are together also preparing a modern Technology Park, which will include biowaste processing and a sorting plant. OLO is also actively engaged in education in the field of waste sorting and prevention. More information about all activities and projects can be found at www.olo.sk - OLO ↗︎.
