Get to know the rare Bratislava tapestries
Discover a secret hidden in the heart of Bratislava – the Bratislava Tapestries, a unique collection of six tapestries from the 17th century, which are among the most precious artistic treasures of Slovakia. These works, from the prestigious Mortlake Manufactory in England, will take you into the world of ancient Greek mythology and tell the story of the tragic love between Hero and Leander, created by the famous Flemish painter Pieter Paul Rubens.
Each of these tapestries is a masterpiece that not only amazes with its artistic beauty but also carries with it a fascinating history.
Originally belonging to the Hungarian archbishop George Pohronc Szelepcsényi, the tapestries were considered lost for many years. All this until 1903, when they were accidentally discovered, carefully hidden behind the walls of the Hall of Mirrors, during the reconstruction of the Primate’s Palace.
Today you have a unique opportunity to admire these precious textile treasures with your own eyes. The Bratislava tapestries are one of the few completely preserved sets from the 17th century and are a true pinnacle of craftsmanship of that time. Displayed in the elegant salons of the Primate’s Palace, the tapestries create an atmosphere that transports you to the past and allows you to feel the luxury and grandeur that the highest classes of society lived in.
Do not miss the opportunity to see this national treasure with your own eyes and be enchanted by the history that awaits you in the Primate’s Palace.
