Parking in the city centre under control of the city again from Monday

27.7.2023

On Monday, 31 July 2023, the city launched the PAAS regulated parking zone in the city centre. The new zone largely includes parking spaces that have been operated by BPS PARK, a. s. for a long time (17 years) based on disputable contracts from the past. By taking charge of the parking regulation, the city will be able to better respond to the suggestions of the zone's residents, for example, to adjust the regulation time according to the zone's occupancy. Also, the revenue from parking regulation, which for many years has been income for a private company, will now flow into the city and city district budgets and will all be reinvested back into our streets for the benefit of our residents.

The zone called "SM0 Centrum - Panenská" is delimited by the waterfront and the streets Palisády, Dostojevského rad and Ulica 29. augusta and includes approximately 3,600 parking spaces. This new zone in the city centre will follow the neighbouring zone "SM1 Hlavná stanica - Blumentál", where PAAS has been in place since May 2022, i.e. uniform PAAS rules will apply in the new zone. This means that from 31 July 2023 it will be possible to park in the zone only with a valid PAAS parking card or after paying the hourly parking fee.

The zone will be charged from 8 a.m. to midnight on weekdays at the rate of €2 per hour, on weekends and public holidays at the rate of €1 per hour. Payment of parking fees can be made via PAAS parking meters, via the mobile application PAAS ↗︎, or at contractual partners and at the shops - parking vendors. Sending an SMS to the phone number operated by BPS PARK a. s. will no longer constitute the purchase of a parking ticket. 58 new parking meters will be installed in the zone, most of them (52) in the places where BPS PARK's parking meters were located, 5 parking meters will be added in those parts of the zone where parking was regulated by the city district (Palisády - Panenská) and 1 in the area of Hviezdoslav Square on Rigeleho ulica.

Residents living in the zone will be able to park there with a PAAS resident parking card. It is easy to register and purchase parking cards online at PAAS ↗︎ or in person at one of the PAAS client locations ↗︎.

About one third of the parking spaces in the zone are reserved parking spaces that have been contracted by individuals or legal entities through BPS PARK a. s. Although the city, as well as the Old Town district, is not obliged to respect the private contractual relationship between the clients and BPS PARK a. s., in tandem with the city district, we have adopted a number of measures to accommodate the clients of BPS PARK a.s. as much as possible. BPS PARK a.s. resident cards expire when the PAAS zone is launched, but if the BPS PARK a.s. resident card is valid beyond August 2023, the city district will compensate the residents for the unused period. Full information on how to gain reimbursement for the aliquot amounts is available at PAAS ↗︎.

Similarly, we are honouring the expiry date for those parking spaces reserved for individuals or legal entities under contract with BPS PARK a. s. that were reported to us during June and July. These reserved parking spaces (with the exception of spaces for disabled persons) will be phased out when the contracts expire, but not later than 31 May 2024. After cancellation of the reservation, these parking spaces will become available to all residents, PAAS parking card holders and visitors to the zone.
