Reconstruction of Pasienky Swimming Pool enters a pivotal phase

Bratislava, 15 August 2023 – Next Monday, 21 August 2023, represents a pivotal phase in the reconstruction of the legendary fifty-year-old sports venue, the Pasienky Swimming Pool. The only 50-metre pool in the city will receive a long-awaited and vital comprehensive repair and modernisation.

The next essential phase arrives following the closure of the swimming pool in June and the renovation of the external sewerage system, as well as modernisation of the sanitary facilities and the women's changing rooms. The heart of the swimming pool - the pool technology of the largest 50-metre pool in the city - will finally undergo a comprehensive renovation and upgrade so that the swimming pool can stay in long-term sustainable operation. After many years, both the pool and its technology were in a very poor condition rendering ongoing operation impossible.
The reconstruction and modernisation were made possible thanks to a contribution from the State Sports Promotion Fund in the amount of €981,015. By combining this contribution with the city's investment, we were able to launch the necessary works. The total amount of the investment, which is close to €2 million, covers several modernisation phases. The reconstruction of the counter-current exchangers, which will ensure more efficient use of the energy required for operation of the pool, has already been successfully completed. This is followed by phases entailing replacement of the whole of the original pool technology, largely dating from the 1970s, including replacement of the suspended ceilings above the 50m pool and other works requiring the swimming pool to be closed for several months.
Through the cooperation of the city with the Sports Promotion Fund, the Pasienky Swimming Pool, managed by the city's contributory organization, STaRZ, has a long-term sustainable operation perspective, which could resume early in 2024. We will keep the public informed on a regular basis as to progress in modernisation and reconstruction of the swimming pool.
