Bratislava: The Capital of Possibilities

Program of cooperation between the city, businesses, and universities in economic, talent, and innovation development.

Economic Power With a Clear Vision

Bratislava generates almost 30% of Slovakia’s total economy - we are the country’s economic heart. The city is home to several global leaders, including Swiss Re, IBM, VW, Amazon, Siemens, and AT&T. We are supported by world-class research institutions like KInIT and Slovak Technical University, as well as home growth companies like ESET, Innovatrics, and Photoneo. We aim to leverage these strong existing assets to ensure long-term prosperity, attract international investment, and create jobs for our citizens.

Bratislava’s ambition is to become The Capital of Possibilities for innovation and talent. A city where people choose to study, work, build companies, and raise families. A city that competes successfully and cooperates strategically with its European peers. Bratislava should be a serious contender for high-value investment. Startups should be able to scale internationally without relocating. Sector strengths should be visible, connected, and investable on an international level.

Strategic Pillars and Initial Projects

The Economic development program focuses on five strategic pillars, each designed to address Bratislava’s most pressing challenges and unlock long-term economic opportunities:

  • Talent Attraction and Retention

  • Entrepreneurship Training for Students

  • Attracting High-Value Investment

  • Supporting Startups to scale internationally

  • Innovation and Sector Hubs

Talent Attraction and Retention

From Administrator to Economic Player

The city has strong employers, universities, founders, and researchers. What we lack is not potential but coordination. Cities across Europe are becoming more active economic actors, convening partners, aligning priorities, and accelerating what works. Bratislava must do the same.

The Economic Development Program defines a clear municipal role. The City will not replace the state, run businesses, or pick winners. Instead, the City will use its unique position to align priorities and shape policies that foster sustained economic growth and enhance quality of life for residents. We will connect actors who already exist but operate in silos, make our priorities clear and credible, and pilot initiatives that can scale quickly when they prove effective.

Our ambition is straightforward: Bratislava should be a city where people choose to stay, return, and thrive. A city where opportunity supports quality of life, and quality of life attracts opportunity. Growth must benefit residents first.

We invite employers, universities, the regional government, investors, developers, students, and civic leaders to join us. This program is a platform for partnership and practical action. Together, we can build The Capital of Possibilities for innovation and talent, and ensure Bratislava remains a city where people choose to build their future.

Bratislava Innovation Ecosystem

Bratislava has a vibrant, supportive and open startup ecosystem eager to support ambitious individuals and startups. In 2025, the ecosystem recorded an annual growth rate of +37.3%. Bratislava is home to 50% of all startups in Slovakia.
