Grants for Rainwater Management

Call for applications in 2023

The purpose of providing financial support for small-scale sustainable rainwater management projects is to improve rainwater management and the environment by reducing the negative impacts of climate change on the city. The grant scheme is linked to the city's strategic documents – in particular the Adaptation Strategy and the Action Plan for Adaptation to the Adverse Effects of Climate Change on the City's Territory – which warn of heat waves, droughts and other extreme weather events, and which emphasise the need to implement measures that will help reduce the associated risks.

The grant scheme is a tool for active cooperation between the city and its residents, who can actively contribute to mitigating the impacts of the changing climate in their area.

Who can apply for a grant?

  1. the owner or manager of a property (an individual or a legal entity) where a rainwater management system will be implemented
  2. another entity if they have the consent of the property owner or property manager, can demonstrate a relationship to the property, and provide the property owner's or manager's consent to the implementation of the rainwater management system

The size of the grant

  • A contribution may be granted for up to 50% of the invested costs and up to a maximum of 1,000€ per applicant.
  • The contribution is granted after the project has been implemented and is based on the actual costs incurred.

Examples of supported measures

  • water-retention measures for rainwater absorption on the owner’s land (drainage and seepage systems: surface, subsurface, and rain gardens)
  • retaining rainwater from roofs and its further use for irrigation or collection as service water by means of collection vessels (the purchase of products and equipment for seepage and filtering, rainwater storage tanks, retention tanks, and pumps)
  • the construction of water-permeable surfaces and the replacement of impermeable paved surfaces with permeable ones (e.g. grassed paving)
  • the construction of vegetated roofs or "green" walls on building facades
  • the creation of systems for the use of rainwater for other activities (e.g. domestic water for showering, washing, and flushing)
