Janko Kráľ Park and Tyrš Waterfront
Janko Kráľ Park is the oldest public park in central Europe and one of the oldest public parks anywhere. It also includes a Danube element with the Tyrš Waterfront.
Located within walking distance for both Petržalka and Old Town residents, and with easy accessibility by public transport from the more distant parts of the city, it is an ideal place for residents’ everyday leisure.
The park has undergone several changes in its lifetime. There have been name changes and major improvements made in different architectural styles. The park was established in the eighteenth century in the classical style and was essentially a modification of the existing landscape, which had consisted of native bottomland forest and grassland. As the first public park in central Europe, Janko Kráľ Park is protected under Act No. 27/1987 Coll. on national heritage protection in the category of historical green areas.
