You can now buy travel cards all over the capital: Dopravný podnik Bratislava opens 80 new sales points for the sale of season tickets

BRATISLAVA, 16 April 2026 – Starting today, passengers in Bratislava can purchase season tickets or travel cards (so-called “električenky“) directly at public transport stops. During the past year, the Dopravný podnik Bratislava (DPB) company has gradually replaced 80 vending machines that now support this service. The purchase is faster, more affordable and does not require a visit to a sales office.
Starting today, passengers can buy not only a single-use ticket, but also season tickets, or travel cards (so-called “električenky”), in the red vending machines with a touch screen. Travellers can purchase a new travel card or extend the validity of an existing one. The service is available to holders of contact-free chip cards and payment cards registered in the DPB e-shop. All travel cards with a validity from 7 days to 365 days can be purchased. Up to now, buying a season ticket was only available online or in brick-and-mortar stores, and vending machines were used exclusively for selling single-use paper tickets. DPB is removing this restriction.
The key advantages of purchasing from a vending machine are the rapid and intuitive operation and immediate validity of the season ticket, which becomes active immediately after payment. Passengers do not need to plan a visit to a shop in advance and can purchase a travel card, for example, in the morning at a stop while waiting for their connection or even at night, as the service is available non-stop. Payment is made exclusively by card, without the need for cash. Passengers who buy an annual travel card can also save more than half the amount compared to single-use paper tickets, namely *€370.

“City public transport in Bratislava operates continuously and passenger services must also correspond to this. Therefore, we are coming up with an innovative solution, and through our modernised red vending machines, we are adding 80 new sales points with the option of purchasing season tickets or travel cards. Passengers can now buy or extend them quickly and easily directly at the stop, without waiting. Expanding the sale of travel cards to vending machines is another concrete step by which we are increasing the availability of our sales services. As with the renewal of the vehicle fleet, our goal is to provide greater comfort for passengers at every stage of their journey."
DPB plans to continue modernising the vending machine sales network this year. The number of vending machines enabling the purchase of travel cards will double by the end of 2026.
